July 1, 2009 marks a momentous occasion for Mar Omega UNLIMITED. Our studio will be pulling up stakes from the New York area and moving to the entertainment capital of the United States, Austin, Texas!
Like many art / media companies, we want to take advantage of Austin's great incentives. An artist can either break his back and starve to fight for work in competitive markets like New York, or they can find a booming market with less high-caliber competition. Austin, TX offers comparable pay rates to the New York tri-state area with a third the cost. The city offers major breaks to filmmakers and is very helpful with letting them use parts of the city for shooting at very feasible rates.
Anyone who knows me on a personal level (or who has read my biography) knows that I was raised in the panhandle of Texas. That is far from the reason I'm making my way back to the state, but for the first time in 12 years, I'll be close to members of my own family. And many of our friends from New Jersey have either moved down there or are planning to in the near future.
The plans for Mar Omega UNLIMITED are to start up with an in-home studio and shoot sporting events and do freelance work for the film companies in the area. With an aggressive saving strategy I will purchase or build a small warehouse in the Austin area for shooting my own films and photography. Much like our New Jersey studio, we will offer our studio, props, personnel and services to other media companies.
Our friends in New York and New Jersey will be missed. And we look forward to seeing our sideshow and media friends and family in Austin!
